Hi my name is Mark aka raddad67
I created BMX Freestyler to give riders of all ages to help communicate with one another and learn more about the great sport of Freestyle.
I started riding the second time around when I was 36. I will be 38 in a few more days. I started riding back in 1986 when I first saw the movie Rad! Hence the rad in my user ID. Dad because I am also a father. 67...because of the year I was born.
I am riding on a WTP Sinus..and I am loving it. Now that you know a little more about me please introduce your self to the rest of the community. Have fun...keep in clean and above all......Keep on Riding!!

Hi, I'm Jon. I've been riding flatland for about 2 years give or take. I am 30 years old and I originally got into biking because I was bored and wanted to try something new. So I went to some random online store and bought myself a KHE dirty buster. (named for a german porn star, but we won't go there and I didn't know it at the time) I learned how to bunny hop and was basically just cruising around DC bunny hopping curbs etc... I then saw a clip (I believe from bmxtrix.com) of a flatland tailwhip. I've been hooked ever since. I love the paradigm shift in thinking that flatland gives you. I was with my girlfriend the other day and I pointed out a spot and said "hey that's the place where I hit my first ever tailwhip," she gets this 'your an idiot' look on her face and says "that's nice hon, and that's also the african american civil war memorial. Good times.
Oh I ride an eastern bandit.

Hi! I'm icastel and I'm a bike-aholic ... 33 years, soon to be 34. Been riding this time around for about 3 months. I rode for maybe 4 or 5 years the first time around and I've always liked to do a little street and a little flatland since back then the dividing line between those two was very blurry. I loved busting a nice flat-to-wallride just as much as a smith decade. After 12 or 13 years since I had my last bike, I decided to get another one and give freestyle another try. Maybe just to see if I could still do anything, or maybe thinking of all the good times I'd had back in the day, or maybe for both reasons. So, I went ahead and researched the current state of BMX. I was looking for a multi-purpose bike like my '91 Dyno Slammer, something good for street and flat. To my surprise, it was very hard to find a bike that was not "specially designed" for either street/park, dirt, or flat. After much debating in my head, I went with a relatively short top-tube street bike: The WeThePeople Nova mainly because it had two brakes and a gyro. Threw on some Odyssey Flatland forks and an extra set of pegs and I was good to go. I still need to get a freecoaster (ordering today). So, I've been riding as much as I can, which is less than I used to because of work and other obligations that come along with being a "grown-up." Ha! A grown-up riding my little "clow bicycle" as my friend calls it. So far I've been trying to just re-learn the tricks that I used to do before. I'm sure many of the not-so-young riders here will relate: When I got the bike I thought I was going to be able to pull at least the easy stuff, you know, a 6-inch bunnyhop, pogos, 180's, etc. Well, icastel, guess again! It's been a painful but good three months trying to regain some of the basic skills I had back then. Focus on "good" because I've enjoyed every minute of it; even the time when my pedal rammed into my shin through my shinguard and left me unable to ride for a few minutes, then I thought "this trick is not going to beat me," and I went for it again and my pedal rammed into my shin through my shinguard and left me unable to ride for *more* than few minutes So, as an overall progress report, here's what I can do now that I couldn't do 3 months ago: * Bunnyhop about 25 inches * Bunnyhop 180 * Bunnyhop footplant to about stem height * Rockwalk * Fire Hydrant * Decade * Ashtray * Whiplash * Rebate * Hangfive (still in progress, but I can roll for about 2 1/2 parking spaces) * Pogos, of course * One spin in megaspin style * Double-peg Stall on ledges * Toothpick Stalls on ledges * Footplant I don't know what else to say other than I am having fun this time around too!

Hello there everyone, my name is Lance Jasper. At age 7 I got into BMX bikes...I loved thrashing around town with my BMX friends and my brothers Larry and Lane rode also...Then I met this older BMX dude one day in 1983...His name is Roger Zigler...this guy folks is the Original Gangsta' of Old School Freestyle...here in Spokane Wa. that is...Roger was a killer Racer and 1/4 pipe and flatland rider and has remained a long time friend of mine...It turns out that Roger was the first rider localy to form an active performing Freestyle Team...along with Dave Breidenbach , owner of Spoke-n-Sport bike shop(and more)...The Team was a positive thing it literally defines the birth of the sport here in Spokane...it was an institution of a sort...one that gave opportunity to local dedicated riderz to get involved and travel all over the Pacific Northwest Area. Performing Shows to audiences in alot of cases who had never seen such a thing before. I grew to love riding and learning new tricks...from that day when I met Roger Zigler...I totally knew that Freestyle BMX was MY Sport...the ONE and Only... for me...So after a few years I had learned to ride vert and flatland pretty well. Spoke-N-Sport held local contests and performed dozens and dozens of shows...In Aug. of 1985 I had been asked to join the TEAM...the ONLY local team as well. I was totally stoked...it was a REAL and substantial way into the Sport for me ...I had worked plenty to get there, from that day on there were MANY Great timez that would follow...The Spoke-N-Sport "Hellriderz" Freestyle Team was born in 1980 and had performance years thru 1998...some of us still ride these dayz too, when there is time. Since about 1983 I have collected and gathered photos and video of ours... I knew it had to be preserved, so that one day the story could be told...The history of longest lived--Radical "Old School" Freestyle Team that I have ever known of...We weren't the guys who made it into the magazines or national contests...the reason...? Well we never really wanted to split up the team...our plan was to keep it alive by recruiting new blood. When riderz retired others came in to keep expanding the boundaries of the sport... here around our part of the nation. Some of us came out of retirement 2 and 3 times over the years...I believe the reason any of us took time off, was to get our adult lives going and start careers...we all loved it tremendously...My own efforts to save our history have been very involved...as a part time approach for over 22 years...mostly spent gathering from many other peoples collections and converting into digital...from numerous film formats...beta-max..vhs...8 mm...and tons of photographs...numerous newspaper photographs...The editing process has been tedious for so long now that I have lost track of how many hours or even months it has been...to be honest with ya'll...and maybe it even sounds obsessive to the point of ridiculousness or just plain nutz to spend SO much time in front of this computer that I have totally sacrificed riding ALMOST entirely this year(2005)...but it is something I believe in a "HELL"(rider) of ALOT...ha hah ha hah ha...... Any way...to get to the point for everyone...My project is called "Hellriderz" The BMX Inferno A 2 disc DVD set... (when completed) it is my first indie-film...and certainly not my last...I have enjoyed learning digital film making so far and having this as a "first film "project has been an HONOR...!!! A Killer Old School BMX Film...Created by a Genuine Old School Freestyle Rider...and even Directed and Edited -VERY VERY- selectively...by yours truly...An entirely- relatively quick- moving film to keep things as much like- attending an actual freestyle show- as possible...It tells the story of a BUNCH of Heavy Metal BMXerz from a part of Spokane called HILLYARD...oh yeah check out www.hillyardskatepark.com our new local riding spot built by Grindline...A really nice job too. The name "Hellriderz" is derived from the original..H.H.R The "Hillyard Hell Raisers" from Rogers High School (in Hillyard) here in Spokane Wa. You see I went to High School with some of these guyz and it was born out of Hillyard...The "Hell Raisers" was basicly put...and defined to me by Jim Koch(original member) As he and the guyz making up a "Dummy" person...A Hillyard-Style scarecrow... outa jeans and a sweatshirt with a hat attached and shoes attached some how...they would actually throw it out in front of moving traffic ... just after sunset... to scare the "HELL" outa them...I swear to the God of BMX that is what Jim told me back in about 1984...Yeah I laughed too...I did witness it a couple times after that...we had actually created another type of BMX riding here ...it was called..."Getting Chased By Cars" ha ha ha ...talk about exciting though...there were far more than a few ocassions of us getting chased ...we knew the neighborhood well and could almost always lose the chaser...it did get ugly at times yet always remained exciting ...great timez. So there it is the short version of the story behind this UNDERDOG Team of HELLRIDERZ... Some time in 2006 I hope to present my creation to the film festival world...as I believe it is worth a look into our history...The Authentic Vintage footage and photos digitally re-mastered and compiled are like no other...Lots of BIG Old School Airs, rider interviews and more...kool fire f/x also and even more...folks. A bunch of different ramps to represent each of those years tons of stuff....Old School BMX Eye Candy and the story to go along with it. We never had a BUDGET even close to what the Factory Teams Had...but it was something...it was HERE in Spokane...and IT WAS REAL !!! It was RAD too...car jumps...truck jumps...we built ALL of our own Ramps and Painted them As WELL... 1/2 pipe action...lots of 1/4 pipe stuff too...LOTZ Of Kool Krashez and representation of PAIN...well thatz all I have time to put in here for now Any Questions??folks...lancejasper@hotmail.com.....peace out.

Hello, everyone I'm Sean Michael Watkins aka: noposer, I'm 34 and soon to be 35 yrs. young. I've been riding since 1986 after I too saw "Rad" the movie, when I left the theater I looked at my friend and said " thats what I want to do, no matter how long it takes me". That was almost 20 yrs. ago, and execept for a brief 3 months absence, I've been riding ever since!! I just love the feeling of riding, and I wake up at nights from nightmares not being able to ride! I have competed, been sponsered, and traveled but the best thing about riding is the fellow riders, just hanging out and riding. I never rode to be the best, I just wanted to be part of the best sport\art in existence. I hope to meet and ride with some of you guys, whenever is possible. I live in Jax. Fla and work on the fire department my schedule is 24 on and 48 off. I'm currently working on pedal-deathtrucks and crazy-spin links. I recently have been riding at the free to the public skateparks and can do no-footed nose picks to 50\50, and footplant the spine...... Ireally find this forum a real boast to motivation, it adds a total different outlook to the riding. Being able to share riding progression instantly...Thanks for the message board and thanks to Mark for starting Bmxfreestyler..... I knew I met Brett Downs for a reason.. Later, and keep riding.....

Hey everyone! my name is derek. im 15 i started freestyling a few months ago, im not very good, but i still have fun. When i was younger, liek 10 or so, me and my bro and my dad used to build ramps in the back yard and jump them, one time we had a lot of mulch so we built a track and had a neighborhood race! ahh good times. i just got back into biking and I ride a 90 some odd mongoose villain and an 88 mongoose decade and soon a late 80s dyno detour. i also enjoy screwing around on local trails and jumps on my DK Cleveland. i love everything old school. im trying to catch up on the new stuff, but right now im stuck in the 80's and i wasnt even alive back then! maybe thats why im fasanated by it. anyway. i work at a local bike shop and usualy ride with my brother, not many people ride around here, and if they do, they ride street.right now im hoping to find an old early 80s race frame to build up and ride down on the trails or at the jumps.

hey everybody, i'm jim. i had the vibe at about 11 years old but i didn't know flatland exsisted, so i started skateboarding. i did that into high school, then got skates, then did kind of scary mountainbiking for 3 or 4 years when i realized i needed a smaller bike. i got into street for a couple years and got interested in tailwhips and manuals and stuff like that. i heard about this "flatland comp" called Elevation in an airplane hanger and i thought i'd check it out. my mind was completely blown, and looking back, there were a lot of big names that everybody knows tearing it up.
so basically i'm 29 and i've been riding flat for 2 years now. dane beardsley, lee musselwhite, and of course primarilly all the guys i've gotten to ride with have been huge positive influences on me and my riding. i hope to ride till i'm dead or broken and show my friends that age is just a number. word.

Hey there folks! My name is Terry Toste. I've been riding for over 20 years. I rode all the many facets of freestyle, but now my passion is flatland. Right now, I have a sweet Quamen Clad 5. Before the Quamen, I rode a Hoffman EP pro. The EP was way to small for me. I'm 6'3". I just couldn't get used to such a small bike. Between the Hoffman and the Quamen, I took a 2 year break. I wondered what was wrong with me in that period. Definitely, it was from not riding. Now, I get at least 2 hours in a day. I ride with my old riding buddy Russ, and my girlfriends son (who is 6 years old and is getting an ARES STN! 16" for his b-day). We have drawn some attention to our riding and have grown the local scene. It feels pretty sweet to see new people riding. There is a level of accountability to it as well. Not that I'm responsible for their progression, but for maintaining their friendship, and the sport.
Lastly, I want to thank Pat at Flatland Fuel for helping me design a bike I'm comfortable with, Mark a.k.a. RadDad for giving us a place for to hang out in cyberspace, and the rest of you for keeping riding alive and well.

Howdy. I'm Josh and I am 33 and am just, just, just returning to riding. I rode flatland and street from 9 til 20, but have been mountain biking since I started college. I decided recently that I wanted to get a bike and cut loose with a decade or two. I started sniffing around the internet to try to learn what I could about the new bikes and found this site (among others). Who knew that this whole underground of returning riders existed. It is fantastic.
I don't even have a new bike yet. I want to mix street and flatland and am not sure what to get. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Can't wait to completely wreck my shins with a bailed backside walkaround.
