Not sure what this poll is about? Read all about it here: --------------- Fire-Hydrant: Learning Fire-Hydrants is good for learning the ability to spin on the front tyre, as well as increase your balance. To do a Fire-Hydrant, the rider rolls slowly forward on once side of the bike (eg. Front right foot on the front right peg, back left foot on back right peg), and uses their back leg to kick off. The rider is shot out to the front of the bike where they spin a bit more than 180’. At this point the rider can manipulate the bike to raise the back wheel of the ground, swinging it around underneath them as the continue to roll backwards. Click here to see one performed by our very own Mark Dandridge! Swivels: As opposed to the rest of the polls, the two tricks this time require a bit of different skill sets. To perform a Swivel, the rider rolls forward as if they were going to do a Fire Hydrant, then pulls on the front brake hard. As the back raises up in the air, the bike will want to fall away from the rider, which as it comes back down to the ground, is used for momentum and as a way to point the bike in the direction you want to roll backwards. As the bike begins to roll backwards, the rider keeps their feet on the pegs and continues to roll backwards around in circles.

This seems like a good place to ask a question about Fire-Hydrants.
In some of the guides on the net (and even in Marks video), it appears that the back brakes are pulled on the same time as the front brakes. Up until now I have never done this, so I'm wondering what the back brakes are used for?

That is the way I learned to do it. When the tire is draging along I can quickly whip the tire around back to me. However I can do it with out brakes too..or atleast the back brake. It feels smoother with out the holding the back brake. I just recently started doing them that way..especially since my back brake broke last week..hehehe. I decided to ride with out it for a bit and keep working on other things. So in short..you can do it both ways. I just learned to do it with my back brakes on the whole time.

Hey fubar,
Mark is right in that you can actually do it both ways. I learned it with both brakes and what I found was that it prevents your bike from rolling back after the frame has whipped around and you catch it, which happens even if your front brake is applied. So, I think it gave a little more control when learning it. The bike just sort of stops dead after you catch the frame and the rear wheel lands. I do it out of habit now, but it's absolutely needed.

Since I have had no back brakes for the past week. I have gotten better at it brakless. Well back brakeless. I can still whip it around faster with my brake because I am comfortable that way. Anyone here doing them compleatly brakeless??

Oh, I knew I'd voted a loooong time ago, but was just wondering because there were only 3 votes in total the other day. I thought maybe voting was closed and people couldn't pick any more. So, we're on for the firehydrant for this month. I'm sending you a video later on.
