you know...BITD...you could walk into a bike shop and usually see other kids like ourselves in there...just hanging out really...talking about freestyle...bmx....whatever...and have a general intrest and knowledge about what they were saying...maybe even get together and go riding...just for the sake OF riding...and you could walk around the shop...and tell each different model of bike by the shape of the frame..
OH...theres a GT...ooh...look at that Master right there!!!
oh man...they finally got that Trick Star and the Quadangle in stock...dope.
now you walk into a shop...kids are there wanting what the see on ESPN...not talking to other riders....begging their parents for the new Dave Mirra haro...with NO knowledge about anything...
and whats worse....EVERY BIKE LOOKS EXACTLY ALIKE.
nothing is unique anymore
and thats a shame.
bring back the good old days..
sorry for ranting.
patrick.

I'll say this: We as older riders KNOW what the real score is as far as what it was to be a rider. We too, had a goal, just to be the best we could be, and not bag on eachother because someone could not do what you could do. If you did not have anything nice to say, you did not say anything, unless you had something to offer the guy who was trying to do the trick. That's what comradre (did I spell that right?) was all about, not making someone else look bad. The last guy who did that was not only dissed, but defeated in battle, when he bagged on me about my skills.. a small victory, but important for my self-esteem nontheless.. Some kids want to learn more, and those are the ones, I tend to talk to about old school.. I can do many old(prior 88) and new tricks (post 88 up to 94), but I don't try to ridicule anyone. But the competetive nature we have will always 'battle' when we meet in those 'jam circles' and just have fun. Ok.. enough rambling..

excellent!!! i've found one bike shop in houston that is actually fun to go to. pearland cycles is a shop with a great vibe. The owner, Arn, collects and sells old school freestyle bikes, as well as rides them. he's got couches where local bikers hang out, talk riding, and make friends. i brought my bike in awhile back for some reason, and the kids there were really stoked on my fancy bmx. they talked me into a parking lot jam out front right then and there and about 6-8 riders came out, all of them, and we shared tricks and just jammed on our various bikes on that warm afternoon. that's what a good bike shop's all about for me. as well as having what you need!
