I just wanted to come on here to say that I'll probably be hanging out here a little more often. VBMX just became the gated community trying to keep the poor people out, and I'm not all that keen on compromising my principles.
I won't pull a "Furious" and say I'm totally gone and then ream the entire board out (because you should never say never) but I'm not very enthused about their exclusionary tactics.

Hey Jon!!!
Welcome back...hahah. I have been floating to VBMX to Pedal to Here for some time now. BMX Freestyler will never be a pay site...(wouldn't know how to do that anyhow. Besides there is too much free stuff to try and make a pay site..IMO. Its all about riding for me anyhow.
Keep on Riding!!!

Uuuh...can someone fill me in on what's happening at VBMX? I don't go there much as it's hard to find anyone who actually rides flatland anymore on that site. If they can afford to spend so much on their vintage bikes, they can afford to buy a bike they can ride and thrash on right?

Well, here's the basics of it...
A 15-year-old kid who'd gotten into building vintage bikes had been posting there for a while, and he apparently got tired of the profanity filter. So, as any inquiring young dude might do, he figured out how to get past the filter and curse... just a little.
For figuring out how to get past the filter, he was banned. Could've easily been the end of the story right there, with relatively little harm for a relatively minor foul.
the usually reasonable site owners decided it wasn't going to end there. Because of one little incident, they decided to institute a $25 "security deposit" to keep new users off the site... ahem... I mean, to make sure that all future new users are "trustworthy", whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. I'm guessing their thinking is that anybody who'd be willing/able to burn $25 on something they could've gotten for free anywhere else is trusworthy.
In other words: money=trust. Even though I wasn't a new user and had proven myself basically civil and such (and thus wouldn't have to pay the deposit), I decided to take what may end up being a very long break from there on principle. The way I see it (as in, IMHO), it's a backhanded way of trying to keep the poor people out. With this not being the first time I've felt alienated by happenings there regarding this type of thing, and me being a poor person, I just figured the easiest thing would be to just stop going there... since it was obvious (to me, at least) that "my type" is undesirable there anyway.
I'm probably taking it too seriously (being that it's "just an internet board" and all. But stuff like that is kinda like an impersonal personal attack, if that makes sense. It hurts my feelings that possibly my last post on a board I really enjoyed is probably "Huh. Interesting." just 'cause I wanted to stay diplomatic (there, at least, I completely went off elsewhere).
