Local parks raided

APPLE VALLEY — Authorities are getting the message out loud and clear: Vandalism in local parks will not be tolerated.
In the latest attempt to “educate” violators, officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Apple Valley station Thursday conducted a proactive sweep of the James A. Woody park, as well as several others, said Detective Sgt. Randy Gwaltney. Some officials were undercover and others were in uniform, he added.
“We’ve had problems with vandalism after dark at the parks,” Gwaltney said. “It was time to go out and get proactive.”
The blitz at James A. Woody park wasn’t the first of it’s kind. Officials have seen great success in the past each time they have conducted operations there, officials said.
Gwaltney further said that this type of enforcement will become a frequent and random event for the specialized divisions at the station in order to keep violators on their toes.
One of the major problems at James A. Woody is the skate park, where people frequently ignore a whole host of rules, by riding bicycles in the all-skateboard enclosure, not wearing helmets and having spectators within the fenced area, Gwaltney said.
On Thursday, 22 citations were issued to adults and juveniles who were violating the rules. Also, 10 skateboards and 10 bicycles were confiscated, authorities noted.
“We had the place surrounded, but they were trying to throw bikes over the fence, and trying to climb the fence to run from us,” Gwaltney said.
He said that other problems at the parks have included graffiti, stolen property and loitering after dark.
All town parks are off-limits from dusk until dawn, with the exception of town-sanctioned events such as baseball games, officials said.
“We’re just trying to instill that it’s been a family park and it will remain a family park,” Gwalney said.

That's a great idea Jim. Paster can also invite all the parents of the kids and preach to them about following all laws not just the ones they agree with and when they break the rules of his park we will see how he likes it. I'm sure he will follow the same lead and call AVPD to help with his unruly kids and parents.

Sounds like Pastor? Garland just cast the first stone. He should get a GLUE like proud parent. Maybe his church can build their own bike park. Just think of all the kids he could bring in. Show us how it's done then Pastor.

These type of freestyle bikes cost between 350 to well over 1,000. i should know because i have bought them for my boys and i am committed to my boys and care deeply about their bmx passion. so for the parent who say we don't care about our kids, why do you think were here blogging about, as if you have a glue. Pastor garland did not comment for the kids to break the law. he commented on the town's priority of beer garden.

PASTOR Garland. You aren't setting a good example as a PASTOR. Encouraging kids and parents to disobey man's laws is the same as telling them to not follow God's laws. Children learn what they live and if taught to not pay attention to laws you don't agree with and only the ones you do we would have choas in our society. You ought to be ashamed of yourself for setting the wrong example here!

Everytime i see an apple valley event, there is a beer garden. Yet, no bikes are allowed at the skatepark? This town's priorities are all messed up. Are youths are our number one resource and our future. These officers should try to gain these kids repect and vice versa. Why don't they turn the skatepark into a beer garden since that is what the town and its people are into.

I noticed that there doesn't seem to be any of these kids parents out there with their kids making sure they follow the rules. It is so much easier to just send your unsupervised kids out the door to wreck havoc at the park so you don't have to deal with them yourselves. That is what you are really angry at. Now you have to figure out something else for them to do that just might take up a little bit of your own time. Too Bad!

We were told that Apple Valley was going to do something for the bike riders at the skatepark. They said they were waiting on approvals to make the skatepark bike friendly and for us bike riders to be patient. In the end, they changed their minds and left us hanging in the dust. Thanks Apple Valley for lying to us bike riders.

Rules, rules, rules. Take those bogas rules and stuff them in your Arse. I guess what I hear about the town needing money for the police is true. But come on, leave the kids alone and go after the drug dealers in that part of town. I'm sure there's an unlimited supply. These are bogas rules, you know it and I know it. Who ever writes negative blogs about these kids, who are just trying to do there sport or hobby has got to be kidding me. You must be related to the cops PERIOD.

I am sick and tired of hearing skatepark kids are a big problem in town. Get rid of the skatepark, and let the drunks, drug users, gangs have it for themselves. This way, the town will realize the skatepark kids were the least of their worries.

All of the parents out there who seem to think it is ok to allow kids to only adhere to rules and laws that they agree with will pay for it in the end. This same attitude will follow them into adulthood and along the way the parent will see the error of their ways but the kid and society will suffer the consequences. Kids learn what they live. Teach them to adhere to all rules and laws and they won't stray from it in the future.

I think the police officers should have done a better stake out at the park. Yes, they broke some minor, non criminal law by riding their bikes or not wearing their helmets. But, these kids were in the skatepark doing their thing. It would have been different, if they were outside the skatepark getting drunk, selling drugs, or fighting with other kids. But, to hassle them for being in the skatepark, skateboarding and biking, was that really necessary? Or, what about those kids that try to fight the kids in the skatepark and steal their bikes or skateboards which has happened before at the park. Where for the police officers then?

If you really think you need to ride there then take it up with the city. Otherwise why don't you build your own bike park and invite all of the kids there.
