big congrats icastle and noposer for hittin them goals!! yeah!
my own goal of hitch to steam has come and gone i guess, as i honestly haven't been commiting to making it happen. i keep seeing tricks, and thinking some up, and it pulls me away from those long standing goals. but ya know, it's so much fun that i don't mind not hitting my "official" goals.
so here's my next 'goal': i'm going to learn to hang 5. last week i had this unbelievable session, and for the first time i actually FELT the balance of the hang5. hopefully this month i'll be able to start to stay in that pocket for a couple feet. good luck ya'll on reaching your own goals!
cheers, jim

Thanks guys for the congrats! I was just starting to get worried that I had lost my grip rides forever! I don't know what happened I've been doing them since the late 80's and then one day last year I realized the danger. I then I punked myself out and couldn't do them anymore. Until I got the Haro!! all bets were off....I guess the longer 20'' frame was like I was use to riding for grip rides and they came back......

Hey Jim! Thanks man. I guess you're right and as long as you're having fun, well you should be OK. I'm not sweating over my goals either because I'm just trying to keep it fun

My goal now is too have all of my routines relearned on the Show, instead of my Hoffman. I'm off to a good start and just dove right in and started doing them. I guess thats the best way! It's definitely fun riding a different bike. I've got 3 different ones, each with their own set of tricks. No burn-out here! On my Haro my goals is all old school tricks ex: boomarang, rolaids, rope-a-roni etc... Show: flatland routines, difficult combos and spins. Hoffman: cherry-picker scuffs, locomotives... and fun!! Lets reach our goals and Keep Riding!!

Icastel, the best advice is to have a med. to fast speed when your doing them. You can do them slow, but faster is easier. Just pull up and jump at the same time. Get in the standard decade position, lean forward and pull back. The farther you lean forward and pull back the higher the front wheel will pull up. When you feel the front lift and become weightless thats when you jump, if you start to flip just tap the rear brakes to prevent yourself from falling. I actually learned this trick in just a few minutes, one of the rare tricks I picked up so fast. Rear brakes help to prevent you from flipping. I didn't have any brakes at the time I learned them and busted my a** several times. One time I jump over and landed on the seatpost on the other side in a wheelie and cruised for awhile. Hope I could be of help, icastel. Now maybe you can give me some tips on doing a toothpick? Thanks!!

Sounds good, noposer. I'll have to give that a try. I tried and tried this trick back in the day and just couldn't get it. Maybe this time around it'll work. As for the toothpick stall, I only know these on ledges. Let me try to see if I can explain it. I usually go slow speed and ride at a very slight angle in relation to the ledge (almost paralell, but not quite -- you can do it by going paralell, too, though). Lift up the front end like in a bunnyhop and make sure your front peg clears the ledge by at least a couple of inches, then pull up the rear end of the bike just like you're doing an endo in the air. When your peg lands on the ledge, it will act as your brake so you just continue the endo movement -- i.e. bend your knees and move your butt backward over the rear tire as you push the handlebars forward. At any point after that, you pull the whole bike away from the ledge, land on both wheels and ride away. The steeper the endo, the more you can stall it, but sometimes I just do "quickplants" where I pull away almost as soon as I land the peg on the ledge. I would say the ideal ledge to learn it is maybe about wheel high (20 inches). Hope that helps. I'll think a little more and see if there's anything I can add to this since I usually just do them without thinking much

Thanks for the tips! Icastel I'll be trying them this saturday, only without a front peg. Guess I'll follow your advice and just land on the front axle, instead of the peg. I never thought of it like a endo in the air. I have always seem to land in a double peg stall. Guess the back end wasn't high enough. I plan to be busting them out on my Haro, maybe I'll post a pic. Thanks, Icastel I'll keep you posted on any progress.. Ride On...

Nice pic Jim. I have a couple of them, too, but they're printed pictures and never got around to scanning them (they're from the early 90's when digital cameras didn't exist ... hehehe).
Is that a grind box you're on?

Almost the weekend and on to my attempts at the toothpick,,,fun! My next goal is to "master" a couple of routines in time for the April R.I. comp. on my show. I had them pretty well on my hoffman, hope it's a easy transfer. Anybody from the board going to make the comp it would be awesome to meet and ride with some of you guys! Jim, Icastel, Fubar anybody?
